An interview with Nigel Savage, founder.
“I met my wife in the 70s when she was in a dance troupe called the ‘Young Generation’. I used to watch her shows in awe, of course because of her, but also for the overall visual effects. For each dance number the costumes were coloured to match the lights and I have always referred to the shows as ‘a visual orgasm!’ Ever since then I’ve been fascinated by light… and of course my wife!
“I have created many, many lighting companies over the past 30 years, where my primary aim was quality and exquisite design, but the problem with most lights is heat, bulb failure and colour control. "I was first introduced to Light Emitting Diodes (LED's) around 10 years ago, but it wasn't until recently with the introduction of High Powered LEDs that I was able to seriously consider the possibility of using them for major lighting applications.
“LED lighting is not like traditional lighting with bulbs. An LED is an electronic component and therefore needs to be treated as such, and this is where many lighting companies are failing at present. It is the symbiosis of lighting design and electronics. My R&D Director, Chris, has been instrumental in taking the designs so much further to where they are today.
“I'm very excited by the prospect of the next 12 months. We have LED lights on test now that are total ‘world firsts’ and I'm itching to get them on to the market.
“As someone once said, regarding our lights – ‘it’s like looking at the sun – only brighter!’ Get ready to be amazed.”
